“Children are super-sensitive, full-fledged people, with high potency antennae which record every vibration within their vicinity, completely and very deeply.”
~ Yogi Bhajan
Yoga can be a lot of fun for kids, but the deeper reason for teaching them yoga is to help them maintain their natural wisdom and radiance or help them regain these qualities if life events have dulled them.
I have been blessed to work with a lot of parents and kids and have seen how yoga poses, breathing and meditation can help the kids express themselves and bond with their parents.
I’d love for more parents to see the amazing benefits of yoga for their kids and am sharing my top 3 favorite books for an at home practice.
#1. Fly Like A Butterfly: Yoga for Children by Shakta Kaur Khalsa – This gem of a book helps parents get their kids involved in healthy activities by introducing them to animals and adventures through yoga exercises like the spider stretch, bear walk, or fish pose; controlled breathing; and even relaxation techniques. For ages 3 and up.
#2 Storytime Yoga by Sydney Solis – Designed for parents, teachers or anyone working with kids, Storytime Yoga seeks to enlighten young minds with the magic of yoga while recounting some of the world’s most delightful, instructive stories in a way that encourages literacy and vibrant physical health. For ages 3 to 11.
#3 Yoga Activity and Coloring Book by Spiraling Hearts – This complete yoga experience helps children develop strength, flexibility, concentration, focus, relaxation, cooperation and creativity. Hours of fun with fresh ideas for yoga play. For ages 5 and up.
