Do you Neti?

Neti Pot Man

You may have seen or heard of the neti pot, but did you know that it is part of an ancient yoga technique for staying healthy by cleansing the nasal passages?

This simple technique can help you relieve sinus issues and allergies, as well as fight the common cold.

A Neti pot (a small pot with a narrow spout) is used to pour warm salted water through the nostrils. One should gently clear the passages with a tissue before starting.

Step 1: Dissolve a quarter teaspoon of salt (use plain salt, sea salt or kosher salt, not iodized) into warm water in the Neti pot.

Step 2: Stand over a sink and lean your body over it, with a slight bend in your knees.

Step 3: Put the spout of the Neti pot into one nostril. Your head must be tilted 90 degrees to one side so that one ear is straight above the other.

Step 4: Allow all of the water to evenly pour into one nostril and out the other.

Step 5: Clear your passages again with tissue. Be careful not to exhale too forcefully, or water may end up in your inner ear or sinuses causing discomfort and/or pain. Repeat on other side.

To fully reap the benefits of neti, make it a regular part of your morning routine.

It’s not glamorous, but it works!

Namaste,
Brenda
