Pregnancy Tip: Stretch Mark Prevention

Stretch Mark Prevention

Pregnancy asks a lot of a woman’s skin. Help maintain your skin’s healthy glow and elasticity during pregnancy with these 3 lifestyle adjustments.

#1 Water – We all know that it is important to stay hydrated no matter what your life stage, but did you know that your water intake needs go up during pregnancy? Instead of 6-8 glasses of water a day, aim for 12 to 16 glasses of water.

Staying hydrated helps you detoxify the body and keep your skin healthy so it is more likely to bounce back from the stress caused by stretching.

#2 Vitamin-Rich Foods – Incorporate more healthy foods that specifically help maintain your skin’s elasticity due to their vitamin content.  For antioxidants that nourish and protect your skin, choose a handful of blueberries, raspberries or strawberries. For skin-protecting vitamin E, choose nuts, seeds or avocados. For skin-glowing benefits, choose fish, walnuts or eggs. For skin-repairing benefits, choose sweet potatoes, carrots or squash.

#3 Moisturizing – For many years, women have used coconut oil, shea butter or cocoa butter to moisturize their belly and bosom in order to prevent stretch marks. I have found the best moisturizer that includes all three of these ingredients, plus cupuacu butter, a plant-sourced Lanolin substitute and Passiflora oil, a superior emollient rich in Vitamin C. It is called Raw Shea Cupuacu Mommy Stretch Mark Butter Cream and is made by SheaMoisture. I use it after I shower and before I go to bed everyday. It helps keep your skin healthy and has a nice scent!

Namaste,
Brenda
