What’s Your Mantra?

Mantra

A mantra is a word or phrase that is repeated to help with concentration or meditation.

A mantra offers you a simple and very effective way to ground your mind in the present when you need it most.

I was given a mantra by my guru during my first teacher training and I used it when rolling my mala beads during stressful or sad days. I also used other mantras to help students relax into deeper meditation in class. These mantras were Sanskrit words, but they don’t have to be. Your mantra can be the word Peace, Health or the name of someone you love. It truly can be anything.

Recently, I was faced with some health issues that had me in the ER being prodded and poked for hours and I know what helped me get through it was my focus on breathing and a mantra I repeated to myself over and over again to keep my mind from thinking the worst.

Take some time to choose a mantra that gives you confidence during your specific life challenges so that when times get tougher, you are ready to use it. If you have a hard time choosing one, you can also use the universal “Om”.

With love and gratitude,
Brenda
