Core Strength & Yoga

My core work in class is usually met with groans and funny faces, but it is also what many people thank me for. A strong core will quickly transform your physical practice and your posture.

Consciously engaging your core throughout your yoga practice will help keep your body safe from injury, stable and strong.

To bring your attention to that engagement, keep reminding yourself to pull your bellybutton into your spine. This will activate your deep core muscles that wrap from the front of your body to the back, keeping your lower back safe throughout your practice, especially in backbends. This work also helps to improve your posture and develop amazing stability.

Try my 8-minute core strength yoga video. Although challenging, with practice and patience you will see and feel the difference on and off the mat.

Off the mat, you can use your newlyfound core strength to walk  and sit taller.
And of course, don’t forget to use this greater presence and inner strength to live fully and happily.

Namaste,
Brenda
