Whether you want to lower your caffeine intake or just have another way to charge up, here are a few natural ways I like to energize the body and mind.
- First thing in the morning, have a glass of warm water with a few drops of fresh lemon juice. Lemon juice provides your body with energy when it enters your digestive tract, and it also helps reduce anxiety and depression. Drink the lemon water first thing in the morning and give yourself at least 15 minutes to see if you still feel you need caffeine or if you can save that serving for later in the day.
- Use essential oil in Peppermint. You can softly inhale or put a few drops on your wrist to quickly perk up. I used to have 4:30am wake up calls and would dab a little peppermint under my nose to wake me up for the super early morning drive. It worked very well.
- Twist in yoga postures to energize the body and give yourself a boost. You can twist while seated on a mat, in a chair or even standing. The twisting posture featured above begins on a mat by crossing your right leg over your left resting leg. Place the right hand behind you, fingers facing away. Bend your left elbow and hug the right leg into the body as you inhale tall and exhale deeply into the pose, opening your belly button, chest and shoulder to the side wall and then looking over your shoulder. Take 5-10 breaths here. Release and repeat on the other side.
